hey cosmic!! great description of the book as "heaviest" quick read. it sure does smoothly sail along when reading it, given its absolutely stunning power and bleakness of landscape. glad you liked it and your comments are SPOT ON!!! isnt it great when a novel can make us realize how lucky we are, and how precious our loved ones are?!

forgot about the "apples" incident - great call on that very poignent moment in the book! glad you brought that scene up.

Yep, that novel definitely had an impact on me, in a good way, and those are the best kinds. One other funny personal anecdote: During the time I was reading it, I had some sort of nightmare that woke both my wife & I up in the middle of the night (definitely unusual for me). The next morning I couldn't remember any details, but my wife said "it's probably that scary book you're reading". I have a hunch she was right :-) Some of those scenes were creepy. Take care.
